Reduce your mailbox clutter…

August 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Over the recent years, I have been switching to paperless billing options. Paperless options reduce landfill waste, ensures that my bills find me and reduces the crap in the mail. I have found two websites that can help reduce the mailbox clutter even more, targetting Credit Card offers and catalogs.

The first site, OptOutPreScreen.com enables you to opt-in or opt-out of prescreened offers based upon your credit reports. You can choice to opt-in, opt-out for 5 years or permanently. Opting out of these offers also reduces risk for credit card fraud. If you are not getting offers in the mail, you no longer need to worry about someone stealing an offer from your mailbox and applying for a card for you. Another added benefit is less time shredding offers that you are not interested in receiving in the first place.

The second site, Catalog Choice will help control the catalog flow into your home. For whatever reason, I receive catalogs in the mail for places I know that I never requested a catalog from. For example, I bought a pair of boots from Bass Pro Shops years ago. Three addresses later, the catalogs still make it to me. I am not interested in camouflage gear. Stop mailing me! The site is easy to use, take the catalog, search for it on the site, enter some key information, and the site takes care of it for you.

Though, these sites will not completely free your mailbox of clutter, but they will reduce your impact on the environment and provide some safety for your identity down the road. Let me know if you have other sites that we should know about….
