The Destination

January 13th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I have been dreaming and planing the trip to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska for some time now, and this year, I decided to go for it. There are still a few hurdles to cover and a growing to-do list, but the opportunity is right for this year. The destination list for the year is going to be drastically reduced compared to past years, but rather than taking 3 or 4 week long trips, I will take one long break of three to four weeks off.

The journey is an estimated 8,000 miles in total and will take me to the furthest point in North America via road, Prudhoe Bay. With the changing economy, climate and demand for fuel, I am afraid that landscape in Alaska will be forever changed. Ironically, the last 400 miles into Prudhoe Bay lead to an oil refinery and travels along the oil pipeline. Highlights of the trip include Hyder Seek 2008, the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Denali National Park and the ALCAN Highway. This will be the longest motorcycle trip that I have planed to date.

To keep costs down, the plan is to camp as much as possible. There will be nights that I end up in a hotel - hot shower, bed and power outlets are an enjoyable convenience and luxury, but I want to enjoy being in nature and the inherit challenges. It is the times of challenge and struggle that produce the best memories, afterall, I am looking for adventure. If I wanted to be pampered, I would take a cruise.

I love that you not only dream, but make plans to fulfill them. Quite the inspiration!

    Thanks Marg!

It is difficult to take that first step sometimes, but it has to be done in order to fulfill your dreams. One thing I don’t want in life is to look back and think, “Why didn’t I do that?”
